Episode 154: Drugs On The Street: What's The Solution?
Tuesday Jan 16, 2024
Tuesday Jan 16, 2024
For most of us, use of "drugs" such as alcohol or pain killers is not an issue. However, contaminated "street drugs" are killing Canadians at the rate of approximately 20 per day. At least 7,800 fellow Canadians are being murdered by unscrupulous dealers each year. Is there a solution to the epidemic of vulnerable people being poisoned in the Royal City?
This week Breezy Breakfast delves in to the realities of working on the front lines to keep people alive with our guests:
Bree Woods, Manager of Community Engagement and Volunteer Support for Sanguen
Kate Nixon of Your Downtown Guelph Friends and the National Overdose Response Service
Lindsey Sodtke, Harm Reduction Manager, Guelph Community Health Centre
Listen in as they answer questions about outreach services, safe consumption, opioid poisoning, and systemic issues facing so many in the Royal City.
Additional information and perspectives are provided by
Angela Allt, Social Worker with Canadian Mental Health Association
Bang Ly, Manager, Salvation Army Community and Family Services
Alex, Welcoming Streets Initiative Outreach Worker, Guelph Community Health Services

Episode 153: Rental Rescue to start off 2024
Monday Jan 08, 2024
Monday Jan 08, 2024
In our first show of 2024, we hear from Krystal Valencia, Founder & Managing Director of Rental Rescue.
Many affordable housing units are in jeopardy due to challenges such as aging infrastructure, financial constraints, and the rising costs of necessary renovations.
Rental Rescue is a nonprofit that works with the public and the private sector to maintain and even increase the number of affordable rental housing units.
Krystal Valencia is a housing activist working predominantly in the Hamilton and Oakville areas. One of her goals is to preserve existing affordable housing units by safeguarding them against deterioration - which often leads to renovictions and rental increases.

Episode 152: Novel Novels and Moving Movies
Sunday Dec 17, 2023
Sunday Dec 17, 2023
In our final show of the year, we kiss 2023 goodbye by talking about movies and books.
Adam Donaldson and Candice Lepage - the hosts of End Credits on CFRU - kick things off by decisively answering a 35-year old question: Is DIE HARD a Christmas movie? Candice defends her love of Hallmark movies to a shocked crowd before redeeming herself by giving props to the best Canadian holiday slasher film: Black Christmas.
After our discussion of regular movies - including a heated debate about director Martin Scorsese - we move on to some of the best books of 2023. From Moon of the Turning Leaves to The Case Against the Sexual Revolution, our participants' picks are unputdownable.

Episode 149: Movember - Men’s Health and Wellbeing
Monday Nov 27, 2023
Monday Nov 27, 2023
The goal of Movember is to raise awareness and funds for men's health and well being.
Our guest today is Dave Robinson. Dave is a practicing psychotherapist here in Guelph who exclusively serves men. As Dave says, who better to talk about men’s issues than a man with issues?
Dave speaks with compassion and authority about issues associated with men’s mental health. Men often face challenges that are different than those faced by women. Given traditional definitions of masculinity and of a man's role in the family, it isn't surprising that some men “man up by shutting down” or “bottle up everything by hitting the bottle.”
