Episode 128: City of Guelph Climate Targets
Monday May 15, 2023
Monday May 15, 2023
In 2021, the City of Guelph made a commitment to establish interim climate targets for the entire community.
To date, only 2.2% of emissions - those created by the Corporation of the City of Guelph itself - have been addressed. Interim climate targets for the entire city of Guelph have not been developed; such targets are crucial for the city to complete its Community Energy Initiative.
Without interim climate targets, it will be nigh on impossible for us Guelphites to reach our 2050 climate goals.
Today, our guest is Evan Ferrari, the Executive Director of eMERGE.
Councillors Allt and Caton share their perspectives.
Get ready for a lively discussion on what has - and what hasn't - been done regarding interim climate targets in Guelph.

Episode 127: History of May Day in Guelph
Monday May 08, 2023
Monday May 08, 2023
May 1st is International Worker's Day, a day to honour the activists who fight for proper working conditions, not the least of which being an 8-hour work day and a 5-day work week.
This week, we are joined by two special LOCAL guests.
Guelph historian Bonnie Durtnall brings us back to the 1900s, describing the colourful characters of Guelph's past and the working conditions in Guelph Industries.
We learn about who fought to better the lot of the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.
Brian Holstein regales us with tales of work and play in the time before radio.
Our May Day could not be complete without celebrating prohibition, bootleggers, gangsters, and illegal stills.
Nor could we forget Guelph’s incredible baseball history. Many do not know that Guelph won the world championship against a team from Ithaca, New York. According to Brian, there is a special reason to revel in this victory!
Remember: if you live in it, if you wear it, if you eat it, there’s a very good chance that a worker made it.

Sunday Apr 30, 2023
Sunday Apr 30, 2023
Guelph has its 200th birthday on April 23, 2027.
Many residents are eager to make this bicentennial the best party ever.
This week on Breezy breakfast we are joined by Danna Evans, General Manager of Culture and Recreation. Many ideas are offered – everything from a bridge honouring a former City Councillor to a list of 200 things of which Guelph should be proud.
This is also the first hybrid Breezy Breakfast, and we are proud to say it was a success.
Everything - the breakfast served by our favourite waitress Bev at the Rise and Shine restaurant, the usual suspects, the discussion, the sound quality - was top drawer.
