Episode 136: Non-binary Day
Monday Jul 17, 2023
Monday Jul 17, 2023
International Non-Binary People's Day has been observed each year on July 14 since 2012 to raise awareness of the issues faced by non-binary people around the world.
Erin Caton is Guelph's first non-binary City Councillor. With her lighthearted, clear, and positive manner, she gives a presentation to explain the different genders and to show the value of respecting how people feel by using preferred pronouns. The goal is to provide insight, as not everyone feels represented by a gender binary. Furthermore, we learn about the various cultures that recognize more than one gender.
We touch on english grammar, bigotry, acceptance, and embracing the broad culture of humanity.

Episode 134: Land Value Tax
Tuesday Jul 04, 2023
Tuesday Jul 04, 2023
What is a Land Value Tax and how might it help alleviate the housing crisis?
Floyd Marinescu is our guest. He explains that a sufficiently high land value tax would:
Quickly bring down housing prices to 2018 levels;
Eliminate speculative incentives bidding up housing prices;
Encourage more construction;
Reduce mortgage debts; and much more.
A tax shift from income taxes to land value taxes would provide tax relief for most households.

Episode 128: City of Guelph Climate Targets
Monday May 15, 2023
Monday May 15, 2023
In 2021, the City of Guelph made a commitment to establish interim climate targets for the entire community.
To date, only 2.2% of emissions - those created by the Corporation of the City of Guelph itself - have been addressed. Interim climate targets for the entire city of Guelph have not been developed; such targets are crucial for the city to complete its Community Energy Initiative.
Without interim climate targets, it will be nigh on impossible for us Guelphites to reach our 2050 climate goals.
Today, our guest is Evan Ferrari, the Executive Director of eMERGE.
Councillors Allt and Caton share their perspectives.
Get ready for a lively discussion on what has - and what hasn't - been done regarding interim climate targets in Guelph.
